Bethlehem Area Moravians Freezer Ministry

Basket of Peaches

State of the Freezer Ministry:

Over the past 3 weeks we have put out over 1,200 frozen meals, plus misc. products – oatmeal, pancake mix, grits, pasta, fresh fruit, eggs, some dairy, frozen vegetables, a little cocoa mix for the kids and toilet paper. We also have vinyl gloves if needed. All of this is because of the great cooperation, support and donations from BAM and our local churches and their members.

Our cooking is going well. We will have no more than four in the kitchen at a time. We maintain the health of everyone. We add for distribution about 400+ meals per week and currently have 1,200 meals or 600 quarts in stock.

The kitchen was very well stocked a few weeks back and now I go shopping at the Restaurant Depot one day a week, safer than a grocery store and get pick up from the Restaurant Store, if needed.

With that said, Jan and I are coordinating pick-ups and deliveries. We are connecting with many from low income apartment complexes, families, couples, individuals including many older Moravian women and their friends. We are also connecting with elderly low income situations including handicapped individuals, that will need follow-up after this is all over. If we remember what we learn throughout this situation, it can be a blessing in disguise.

Please let people know about the Freezer Ministry during your parishioner calls, emails and letters. Remind them, that this is also available for their neighbors, if there is a need.

Question: How do I get in touch with this food supply if I’m in need or know someone who is?

  • Please call one of the two Food Distribution Coordinators –
    • Bob Wingrove 610 730-3929
    • Jan Schanck 610 442-4718
  • Note – You do not need to provide the name of the individuals that are being helped. If provided, that information would remain confidential.
  • Once a call is made to a coordinator, food can be picked up at the back kitchen door at East Hills Moravian Church by appointment. We are very flexible with pick-up times and would love to see you.
  • Deliveries, if required, can be coordinated. We can always use help with this part of the program, now and in the future.

Options: When people are reluctant to go to the grocery store or the Freezer Ministry –

Wegman’s

  • Delivery and curbside pickup
  • Found at Instracart.com
  • Deliveries are 2 weeks out at this time.
  • Pick-up are 1-2 days out.

Giant

  • In our area has curbside pick-up
  • Found at peapod.com

We need to pass this along and we may need people to do a pick-up and delivery, or two for others.

It will be great to be on the other side of this evert. All our members can help by calling each other and thinking of their neighbors. The stories we hear are private, sad, sometimes desperate, and some with a lot of worry. Most are just full of a lot of thanks for our churches and their ministry.

Please call me if you want to know more about the Freezer Ministry.
