Stewardship Message From Pastor Derek French

Services this past Sunday featured personal testimonies by Barb Hendricks and Peter Diehl about the importance of worship in their lives. Barb reminded us that while worship may begin during a Sunday service, its blessings extend into all areas of life. Our work and our hobbies can become a form of worship if we do them for God’s glory. Peter shared that worship is a place where he is challenged to grow in his faith and follow the example of Jesus Christ. Worship enriches and expands his experience of life.

This coming Sunday we will hear members of the congregation bear witness to the transformation and blessing that can come to us when we dedicate a portion of our lives to service and mission. We will explore the unique gifts God has given to you and look at ways each of us can use these gifts to bless others in our congregation, neighborhoods, nation and world.

See you at church,

Derek French

Importance Of Daily Devotional Prayer

Greetings in the name of Christ, our Lord.

This past Sunday was the first in a five week series focused on growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ. During worship we heard the personal testimonies of church member Joe Mixon and seminary student Rebecca Schoeneberger about the importance of daily devotional prayer in their lives.

I encourage you to explore this aspect of your faith and discover the blessings frequent prayer can bring. If you don’t already have a print copy of the Moravian Daily Text, why not sign up for free email delivery at the Moravian Church North America website.

As over 1.5 million Christians around the world have already discovered, it’s a great way to jump start your life of devotional prayer and draw closer to God. This coming Sunday we will hear testimonies from members about how weekly worship enriches their lives. We invite you to join us.

See you in church,

Derek A. French

Peter Diehl On This Week’s Evangelism At EHMC

True friends in Christ,
What a blessing this week has been.

On Tuesday I watched an incredibly talented and gifted group of East Hills friends explore creative ways to use technology and social media to further the mission of Christ. This group, the “Communications Committee”, identifies needs, prepares a plan, then gets the job done. They would probably be surprised to hear me say it, but I have been in the church long enough to recognize the Spirit of Christ at work in a group of Christians. These Christian friends of mine have “It” going on!

On Wednesday 11 men took time out of their busy week (one man even fixed the parlor sink right before we began!) to have a Bible study at EHMC. Some of us were tired. Some of us were having a difficult day. But when someone said, “I just had to be here tonight”, the Spirit of Christ was among us. We looked at how King David dealt with adversity, and prayed. I think we all came away knowing that Christ is the important foundation upon which we wish to live our lives. We are not perfect Christians, but Christ is our rock.

I was at East Hills a lot this week. One evening as I was leaving the church I glanced at the comfortable looking cot and sleeping bag set up in the Narthex. Just then I opened the front door to a blast of icy air. I thought about having to spend the night outside in such temperatures, and how cozy and safe that cot and sleeping bag in the Narthex looked. I am so thankful that many of my Christian friends at East Hills are involved in providing a safe and warm place for homeless men and women to spend a cold winter night.

Seeds of faith are growing in abundance throughout our church. I hope they are growing in me and all of you as well.

Your friend in Christ, Peter Diehl
